Principal’s Message:
Our grade 4/5 classes have been abuzz this week learning about federal parties, names of candidates and platforms. I was privileged to hear students read letters to the future prime minister outlining an issue important to them. Students cast their vote on Thursday and we will learn of their election results next Tuesday.
On Monday October 21, our school gym will be a polling station for the Federal Election. The polling station opens at 7:00 am. As a result of that added activity at our school, we anticipate the driveways, parking lots and surrounding area to be very busy throughout the day.
As such, we would request that, if at all possible, you find an alternative way to get to and from school that day: walk, scooter, bike, park a couple of blocks away and walk the rest, to help alleviate some congestion.
We know how busy it is during school drop-off and pick-ups and with voters arriving and leaving it will make that situation even more challenging. Our priority is to keep kids safe on their way to and from school and we request your assistance and vigilance in helping us attain that goal.
A reminder that you can also vote when you drop-off and pick-up your children. It is a privilege for our students to see democracy in action in their own school in this way, with electoral officers doing their jobs and voters doing their duty. We appreciate your cooperation and support.
Sincerely,
Beth Cairnie, Principal
