Principal’s Message

A great big thank you to so many who made our Terry Fox Run a great success.  Mrs. Erickson did an outstanding job of organizing the entire event – from signing us up with the Foundation, t-shirt sales, route planning, bringing in the Rivermen and organizing volunteers.  We are so grateful.  To all those who helped out, thank you!  It is such a great experience to be able to run in the community and without you, it would not have been possible.

Please note that we still have a chance to donate.  The link to our Langley Meadows collection site is   Terry’s dream lives on and while it is exciting to see and hear of more and more cancer survivors.  While cancer has touched so many of us, let hope be greater.

And thank you, teachers, for teaching about Terry Fox.  He remains a great role model for our students and it is inspiring to our students to hear about making a difference!

Enjoy your weekend,

Beth Cairnie, Principal

Learning This Week

We enjoyed having the Rivermen here, not once but twice this week!  Early this week, they read with our division 7 and challenged the grade 3s to read more!  Then there was some playtime on the school grounds.  Seems like they hit on important practices for our students: reading every day and physical activity!

Our Division 1 worked with Mrs. Watkins to produce a great reminder of roles and responsibilities for parents, teachers and students.  Thank you, grade 4/5s!

It was apple week in kindergarten and students worked in literacy, science, social studies and numeracy around this yummy theme.  Here are a few of Mrs. Roddham’s students working, their apple sauce feast and their apple art.

We also had our first Fire Drill of the year!  Thank you to Mrs. Brenneman for her leadership.  Our students did well in remembering to stay quiet and in taking attendance quickly.  Fire Drills are great chances to review with your children your home escape routes and your family meeting place.

The Week Ahead

Please note that Monday, September 30 is Orange Shirt Day.  Our teachers are going to be teaching about this in the classrooms and students are encouraged to wear orange.  Please take time to talk to your children about their learning from this day.  It is important for us to remember residential school survivors and a chance to teach our children about respect and culture.

We will also be having a Lock Down Drill on Wednesday.  In our work with students, we strive not to upset them with stories of real lockdowns and other tragedies.  Families are always encouraged to debrief any of our drills.
