Principal’s Message
The last week has been a very full one!
Our staff had great learning on our provincial professional development day. Some spent time learning about integrating the iPad across the curriculum, others deepened their knowledge of guided reading instruction, and still others explored augmented accelerated communication systems. There was learning around the use of picture books, supporting social-emotional learning and a number of staff attended Langley School District’s Kindergarten and early learning conference, known to be one of the best in the province. Thank you for making alternate arrangements for your child last Friday.
And thank you also for attending parent-teacher conferences. Rich conversations were had and staff were excited to share with you student learning and partner with you for the next goals. We know that students benefit greatly from strong home-school partnerships. We appreciate the time you invested in these important conversations. Making arrangements to pick your children up an hour early on Tuesday and Wednesday was a great help in making these times possible.
Finally, our Hallowe’en celebrations were a wonderful success! A big thank you to our PAC and volunteers for helping make the Carnival possible. What a great chance to see the amazing community we have!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Next week is just as full as this one. Please take a few minutes to skim through the upcoming events and other news.
Warmly,
Beth Cairnie, Principal

Safety Concern
Parents, please note that we are staffed for supervision of students 15 minutes before the bell and 15 minutes after the bell. Students are welcome to come to our breakfast program at 8:00 am in the morning or to join into open gym at 8:10 for a loonie donation. Please do not drop off your children to “wait in the school” until the day starts as we are not staffed to supervise them. After school, there is playground supervision until 2:55. Please pick up your children, or have your day care provider pick up your children by this time. Waiting in the office or in the foyer before or after supervision is not an option as students are not supervised and the school is not staffed to take responsibility for your children at these times. Please note the times below:
8:00 Breakfast Club in the library
8:10 Open Gym, $1. This is closed at times during the year for other special events. Please follow this in the newsletters
8:25 Supervision on the playground begins
8:40 Welcome Bell
8:45 Attendance Bell
2:35 Clean up Bell
2:39 Dismissal Bell – Supervision on the Playground is available
2:55 Supervision Ends
Learning at Langley Meadows
Our week began with community policing supporting safety in front of our school. A huge thank you to our crossing guard leaders who decorated “Think of Me” cards to remind all drivers to stay off their phones and to drive slowly in school zones.

Our Hallowe’en Celebrations were filled with much fun. Staff and students dressed up and all enjoyed the PAC Hallowe’en Carnival.

Two divisions enjoyed their reward for Entertainment Book Sales. Thank you to our PAC for the gift of a workshop from Urban Safari. The learning was fantastic, as were the creatures!

Remembrance Day
Teachers have been teaching about Remembrance Day and our veterans. Thursday at 10:45 we will have our whole school assembly for Remembrance Day. Poppies are available for students on Thursday at school and children are encouraged to bring a small donation for veterans. All children will be given a poppy.
Mrs. Brenneman is planning a meaningful assembly and many students are participating in this time of remembrance. These include students in Mrs. Blaak, Mrs. Buyco-Galloway, Mrs. Osborne, and Mrs. Tulloch’s classes. There are grade 5 student speakers from divisions 1, 2, 3, and 4. Our choir will also be singing.
Classes will lay wreathes and we will have a special speaker also.
We love having parents join us for this time of remembrance. We hope you can join us.
