Kindergarten Applesauce

The K’s were busy making applesauce in class this week, yum yum! They shared it with others with a little dab of ice cream, we are so lucky!

Roots of Empathy

At the heart of the program are a neighbourhood infant and parent who visit the classroom every three weeks over the school year. A trained Roots of Empathy Instructor coaches students to observe the baby’s development and to label the baby’s feelings. In this experiential learning, the baby is the “Teacher” which the instructor uses to help children identify and reflect on their own feelings and the feelings of others. This “emotional literacy” taught in the program lays the foundation for safer and more caring classrooms. They are more competent in understanding their own feelings and the feelings of others (empathy) and are therefore less likely to physically, psychologically and emotionally hurt each other through bullying and other cruelties.

A big thank you to Brittany and Alfie for coming to be with Mrs. Boyce’s class.

The Daily Five

Mrs. Boyce’s class began their Daily 5 stations and the students are having fun developing their literacy skills while creating new friendships.

Terry Fox Run

Thank you to all of the families who came out to support our Terry Fox Run and for making donations to help support cancer research. Thank you to all of the parents who came to volunteer so that we could ensure the kids were safe on the route. Finally, a big thank you to Mrs. Erickson for organizing this event again this year.

Orange Shirt Day

The staff and students wore orange on Thursday to honour survivors of residential schools. Students are beginning to develop an understanding of this important historical event and wearing orange once a year allows us to keep it at the forefront of our minds.
