Mustang Moments Sept. 30th

October 5, 2014

1. Welcome Back!

It was so lovely to get back to school this week and to be surrounded by children. It was exactly what my heart needed! Thank you all very much for your patience as I was absent the first week of school. Upon my return students and staff were getting to know one another and settling in to routines and making plans for the year. I know it is going to be a great one!

2. Orange Day

Tuesday students and staff wore orange as a way to honor and remember all of the aboriginal children who were taken from their homes and placed in residential schools. It is a way to remember the harm done and a reminder to not repeat the same mistakes again. Wearing orange shirts are a symbol of defiance against those things that undermine children’s self esteem, and of our commitment to anti racism and anti bullying in general. Thank you to all who participated and for talking about this important part of history.

3. Back to the Garden

Students in Mrs. Cunningham’s class were back in the school garden this week checking out all of the plantings from last year. I know that the kids in summer camp ate snow peas all summer and various other vegetables as well! A big thank you to MOOSC for watering the garden all summer and keeping it alive! Mrs. Cunningham’s class enjoyed some kale last week and are looking forward to harvesting pumpkins! The garden will continue to be enjoyed this year by students and staff alike!

4. Math Games

Mrs. Tulloch was busy with her Grade One class playing math games for the first time this year. This is a great way for students to learn new concepts in a non threatening, fun way. It is also a great to reinforce and practice concepts just taught.
