1.Welcome Mrs. Gilroy

We are pleased to welcome Mrs. Gilroy as a teacher Librarian with us for the rest of the year. She will be in the library a few days each week and we are so happy to have her join our school.

2.Bannock Making

Coach Ryk made bannock bison meat tacos with the kids this week, so yummy!

3.Playland

Our grade 5 students had a great day at Playland this week exploring all of the rides! The students participated in a science unit that Playland offers where kids focus on forces and simple machines, electricity and energy transformations and how the human body reacts as it is exposed to extreme environments! A huge thank you to all of the parents who drove the kids to the park, we couldn’t have done it without you!

4.Math Thinking

Every Thursday kids are invited to have extra math practice but presented in different ways. Here some are playing chess, a board game and coding on an ipad. Thank you to Mrs. Brenneman and Mrs. Yeung for facilitating. This week our new librarian, Mrs. Gilroy also participated.

5.Core Competancies

Division 13 began with the Big Idea: Skills can be developed through play and how creating with their classmates would challenge their creative and critical thinking (Core Competencies).

They discussed how they had needs and opportunities for designing, through exploration. They could make a product through modelling of others and that they could reflect on their work both as individuals and collaboratively in a group.

They then sat on one side of the river with 10 blocks across from a class mate with another 10 blocks. They built, discussed and shared their thinking with the group. Then the river got wider… you could see the ideas grow from their discussions and critique of each others bridges. They came up with I can reflections and they discussed how their thinking was using the “Core Competencies” that help their success in all areas of school and social life (i.e. SEL).

6.Heritage Fair Award

Congratulations to Kaelyn for winning an award at the Regional Heritage Fair last week! We are so proud of the project she completed on Dutch trading in World War II and her ability to express her ideas to the heritage fair judges. A huge hurray as well for Makayla who won the Curators Choice Award for her Katzie First Nations Project.
