Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is always a lovely way for classes to celebrate friendship. Various activities happened around the school including art activities, friendship salads, exchanging of cards and more.
MOOSC Breakfast
A special start to the day in our onsite daycare. Yum!
Basketball
This Wednesday the Grade 5 boys and girls both had their first basketball game. The girls played at Lynn Fripps and won a close game, 12-10. The boys also had a close game here at LMCS almost catching up but not quite in time 10-12. Both games were super exciting and the audience was on pins and needles! Can’t wait for next week!
Multicultural Day
In order to celebrate the Lunar New Year, Mrs. Mui and Mrs. Tam organized a special parade with a Lion dance. In the traditional Chinese Lunar calendar, each year has an animal sign. Altogether there are 12 signs that repeat in a cycle. The excitement begins on New Year’s Eve when families gather for a festive meal. The celebrations last for 15 days. During this time, it is customary that people light firecrackers, perform the lion or dragon dance with music of gongs and cymbals to drive away bad spirits, send out the old year, and welcome in the new year. Children wear red as they watch the dragon or lion parade. They also receive red packets filled with money as new years gifts. The color red is a symbol of good luck, happiness and prosperity.
A big thank you to the students who helped in the parade, wearing their special traditional outfits and the students who helped with the Lion dance. Special thanks to Mr. Moscarda and Mr. Richardson for being the lion and dancing the halls of our school and finally a BIG thank you to Mrs. Mui and Mrs. Tam for organizing this special day.
