1. Community Visitors
The Kindergarten classes have been learning about their community and different occupations. They were fortunate to have some special visitors on Thursday morning to “Show & Tell” about their important job. Officer Ryan and Officer Roger from Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) came to the school along with their cool Charger car and a very special canine colleague. The children were delighted to have a close up look at the car with flashing lights and loud sirens and the opportunity to meet and pet Tom, their detector dog. Tom went into action and sniffed for a hidden package that Connor, Officer Ryan’s son, hid inside the car. Tom is amazingly smart! The children learned that Tom trains every day, the same way that they learn by going to school. Everyone really enjoyed this visit and the children learned the important role that CBSA agents play in securing Canada’s borders and helping keep us safe! Thank you again Officer Ryan, Officer Roger and Tom. Thank you to Mrs. Roddham for organizing this event for all of the Kindergarten classes.
2. District Speech Festival
Friday, April 26th was the District Speech Festival event were 5 Langley Meadows students represented our school competing against other students from the Langley School District. Savannah, Faith, Selena, Shone and Jessica did an amazing job! They were all cool as cucumbers standing in front of the audience and the judges as they gave their speeches and eloquently shared their ideas with others. They each had a unique and thoughtful speech that they had written which either made us laugh or think seriously for a moment. I was so proud of them all! Congratulations on a fine job!
3. Spirit Day
Friday’s Spirit Day revolved around a dance theme and the students rocked it out! Students came to school wearing their dance attire and were prepared to bust a move. At recess and lunch students could be seen dancing in the halls, classrooms and the playground. The grade 7’s lead a conga line and encouraged the younger students to follow their lead! Thank you to Mrs. Schmit for taking the lead on this dance-a-thon and for Ms. Villeneuve for dancing right along side of her.

4. Red Cross Babysitting Course
I was excited to let in 31 eager students into the school this morning at 8:20am for the Red Cross Babysitting Course! It was a full day of learning about caring for children from 0-12 years of age, creating safe environments, the business of babysitting and how they can market and advertise their skills plus learning some first aid. What a valuable skill set that will support these students while babysitting but in many other situations as well. Way to go kids! Not to mention the added bonus of making money very soon!
