1. Easter Eggs
Last week the kindergarten class spent time decorating Easter Eggs and they turned out lovely!

2. Zones of Regulation
As a staff we have been learning more about student self regulation. We understand that it is difficult for many students to focus on learning when there may be other elements disturbing their ability to focus. Staff have been working on three things with students:
1. getting them to identify what and how they are feeling
2. developing a common language around how to describe what they are feeling
3. teaching strategies on what might help them focus when they are feeling a certain way
A lot of times it is very difficult for kids to articulate what they are feeling and why they are behaving in a certain way. We are hoping that this focus and understanding on our parts as adults will help students be able to communicate and put strategies in place to support learning.

3. Langley Centennial Museum
This week Grade 2 students went to visit the Fort Langley Centennial Museum where they explored the old buildings of our community and discussed chores, old fashioned games, the needs of the community and roles and responsibilities within families.
4. Animal Tracks
This week some of our primary classes learned about how Aboriginal people used animals for many things e.g. furs for trading, clothing, and blankets–bone for jewelry, tools, and games. Karen Gabriel from the School District Aboriginal Program brought in real animal scats and also vinyl replicas, real life size paws and tracks. She talked about how children had to learn to identify signs of animals being around because they became the gathers and hunters. Students made an animal stamp to take home and also completed some lovely art in their class using the animal stamp they had made.
6. Cross Country
The cross country team has been practicing diligently since before Spring Break and they finally had their first race this past Tuesday. It was a beautiful day and the kids did an amazing job completing the 2.3km trail at Aldergrove Lake Park. I am so proud of their hard work. Their next race is this Tuesday, so wish them luck! Thank you to all of the parents who drove the kids to the park and who cheered them on, I love your school spirit!
