Mustang Moments Oct. 17

1. Project Soul

Each year the PAC sponsors two fine arts performance groups to come to LMCS (Yeah PAC!) . This week we welcomed “Project Soul” which is a high energy and dynamic street dance performance showcasing artistic athleticism. Project Soul brings their audiences on a journey into an urban landscape set in a school, while entertaining and educating them breaking down the elements fundamental to street dance.  The upbeat and popular music had everyone up and out of their seats.

2. Buddy Activities

Mrs. Driver and Mrs. McArthur/Weltzin’s class met this week to do buddy art. Buddy activities are so great for both age groups as they learn so much from each other. The little ones look up to and respect their big buddies and the older students take their roles very seriously and take care of their little buddies not just during buddy time but even outside on the playground!

3. Spirit Day – Wear a Jersey Day

Today was our second school spirit day of the  year and it was great to see so many different sports fans!

4. Fall Art

As I walk around the school each day I love seeing all of the different classroom art. Here is a sampling of some of the bulletin boards at the moment. Mrs. S-K’s pumpkins, Mrs. Watkin’s Fall leaves, Ms. Chijiwa’s skeletons, Mrs. Jackson’s apple prints, Ms. Wendell’s crazy eyed pumpkins, Mrs. Rhoddam’s happy pumpkins and leaf people, and Mrs. Cunningham’s scarecrows and tie dye.

5. Filling Buckets

This is a great story to share with kids as it talks about ways you can make other people feel good. It shares what kinds of things you can do or say that will fill another persons bucket. I know many of our classes start the year with this story and then talk about the lessons of this story all year long. Mrs. Moir’s students made buckets with great ideas of things that filled their buckets.

6. Daily Physical Activity

Even if its a rainy day kids can still be active! Inside Simon Says with Mrs. Driver’s class!

7. Plants in Our Environment

This week many classes (Mrs. Cunningham, Mrs. BG, Mrs. Randa/Ms.Fraser, and Mrs. Gray) had a “Plants in our Environment” lesson with Karen Gabriel, district Aboriginal presenter. The presentations were wonderful. Students learned about all the different ways Aboriginal people use plants in their everyday lives and then discussed how dyes are made from different types of plants. Karen Gabriel taught the students many amazing facts about plants and how to identify certain types of plants in the environment. Then the kids had a lot of fun using tie dye to make beautiful artwork.
